Another Heart Do...

I'm sure many of you look at many hair blogs, which right now, have many heart hairdos. I'm positive that this braid/ribbon combination is somewhere out there in the hair blog world, but this was my simple take on a cute heart do.

1. Simple ponytail- start it not too high, but not too low on the head- You need to make enough room for the top curve of the heart, and the bottom point.

2. I like to tie the ribbon in at this point, just loop it around your elastic, and then tie in a simple knot at the top.
3. Topsy-Tail upside down so it comes out of the top of the pony. (*I made the mistake of not including the ribbon on this photo- make sure to pull the ribbon through as well.)

4. Split the hair into two sections (will end up with 2 braids) Start one braid, using the ribbon as one of the sections of hair.
5. Braid all of the way down, and tie with an elastic. Repeat with the other side.
6. I use bobby pins at this point. I found these great small ones at Sally's a few weeks ago- they come in a little tin, and you can see the size difference. I love them for the little girls' hair, just because they don't stick out as much. You can see direction of the pins with the red arrows...

Toddler Heart...

Doing shorter hair is pretty hard sometimes, but this one was really simple, and turned out really cute. It's only 10:30, and we've already gotten 3 comments on it. :)

I started out by adapting this do by only doing one heart, then instead of leaving Maia's hair down (which usually ends up super crazy by the time we're out of the car.) I pulled up both sides into simple pigtails.

Wow...

Can you tell that I have been preoccupied lately? The girls have been in ponytails, down hair, and simple braids the last few days because I have been too busy. Plus, Ruby has a cold and she is teething, and any of you who've had a baby doing either of these two things knows it's not pleasant, let alone both at the same time! Enough of the excuses, I guess.

This was a fun one this morning. I wanted something that looked nice and relaxed. It feels like a "wear-a-big-sweatshirt-and-snuggle-with-a-book" day. Too bad there's school and errands to run. :) Anyway, I started out with two small regular braids, pulled everything into a ponytail, and then used the topsy-tail upside down to get it to flip up like this. I didn't curl it or anything, and now that her hair is a little shorter, it looks really cute just left alone.

Toddler Piggies

This one I did a while ago with Maia, and I wasn't going to post it because the pictures weren't great, but I thought I would anyway because it is very cute, and very easy. You do use a topsy tail for it (or if you are one of the talented who can do pull-throughs without one, you don't need one.)

You can see that it is one pull through on the top section of the hair (you can do more than this, I just thought I'd keep it simple) and then the pigtails are flipped upside down (so pull from the bottom going up with the topsy tail) Once that is done, give each piggie a good curl and you're done. I loved how this looks a little cute and spunky- and it stayed in all day.

Speaking of piggies, Ruby finally has enough hair (on the sides anyway) to do cute little piggies! Of course she made it really difficult to get a good photo. :)

Topsy Tail Tutorial

The key to getting a good pull through is to start with a smooth ponytail, and make sure that your initial rubberband is not too tight- this will make the hair not pull through as well. (Watch after I do the actual pulling through, I tighten the rubberband.) Let me know if you have any other video ideas!

*I like music with videos, and in my house silence does not come frequently. So, if you need words to explain what I'm doing, please let me know and I'll change it for the next movie.

I've already got a couple of emails asking where I bought my topsytail. I bought mine for just a couple dollars on ebay, and it came with 2 or 3 different sizes. (The big one is all I can find now though!) :) I know I've seen them at Claire's here in Las Vegas as well.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Time for some Christmas dos! We had a Christmas party at our church last night, so what a perfect occasion for some cute dos! Em's was a pretty cute little wreath- lots of compliments. The photos kind of tell the story, so I won't bore you with the words. :) Maia's was really simple and easy, just three pull-throughs and lots of flat iron curls.

The question I was asked the most last night was where I got their hair clips. I'm proud to say that I made them. I got the pieces in the Christmas section of Michaels. I think they were meant to make glittery little floral arrangements, but all I saw was hair clips. :) I'd be happy to make a few more if any of you would rather buy them instead of making your own. A Fun Funky Do...

I wasn't quite sure how this one would turn out from the idea I had in my head, but I like it. Super simple, and quick. I should have used a bit more hairspray at the beginning with the braid- it looks a bit too fuzzy for my liking. :)

Two ponytails pulled through upside down, and then curled with the flat iron. I took just the last bit of hair, twisted it and pinned it up near the ponytail to make the little poof. I left the ends kind of lose and free, but you could secure them really well if you would rather.

A couple pull-through ideas...

I did the girls hair pretty quick today, but on both I used pull-throughs. I haven't used them much on Maia's hair yet, but they turned out really cute.

Emma's had the three on top, going into cute little messy buns...

For Maia, I did a ziz-zag part, put each side into three sections, then did the pullthroughs on the front and back section, and put them all together to make a little pigtail in the middle section.
