A fun Formal Style...

So first of all, I would like to apologize for not posting lately. My class is getting nice and busy near the end, so I'm all sorts of busy with that in addition to all of the regular mom duties. The end is in sight though! :)

My niece had her 17th birthday party this weekend, and I had the chance to do her hair. I've started to get into doing coloring, do any of you readers like to dye your own or others' hair? I'm not professional in the least, but I've had fun learning new tricks. I started off with Savannah going to a light golden brown (she's naturally a dirty blond, but she's been dying it lately...) She wanted a fun touch of color, so I added the teal streak.

I started by ratting the crown of her head to make the big bump, then wrapped the hair around and used pins to secure.  I did this while the hair was still straight, so I wouldn't have to mess with the texture on the front part of the style. It worked out great, and then I just curled them with my small Frankenstein curler for a wave style- not ringlets. The curls got more and more wavy and loose, and looked great throughout the night.

I thought I'd be able to hide the pins, but at the end, I needed a fun accessory to cover them. I tried this big bow, but it just didn't look perfect. I had some netting, feathers, and flowers, so I made this quick clip that looked perfect with her dress. (Sparkly pink and zebra print)

Here she is with her makeup and dress on- so beautiful! Happy Birthday, Savannah!

Prom Hair...

I know this one isn't going to be very useful for all of you with little girls, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Kim is my neighbor, I've known her for a good 10 years or so now, so her going to prom makes me feel nice and old.

Kim requested curly and pulled to one side, so here's what I did. Start with curing the entire head with the flat iron. I pulled it to the side in sections, using about 3 bobby pins per section to secure it. I pinned the curls into place using the cute little diamond bobby pins. Cute! :)

A little Punk...

This was a fun and funky do for the day. Two little dutch braids on the sides, pulled back into a sort of mohawk style. Emma loved it, and so did Michael. I guess the punk dos win over the cute curly ones. :)

Saturday, November 21

So I know most people don't love doing hair, and wouldn't pick it as something fun to do on a Saturday morning...but I guess I'm not most people. :)

I had my neices over again this weekend, and this time I worked with Savannah. A few weeks ago for her birthday she got a killer dye job. I LOVE it, but of course I am too chicken to ever do anything as fun. Anyway, I had this idea in my head for a while, I saw it in The Princess Diaries (#2 I think), and her hair was perfect to try it on. This would be perfect for an evening out, or a super formal wedding do- all ages here!

I didn't do step-by-step photos, but it started as a simple low ponytail with the back section of the hair, then I twisted back the front sections and pulled them into the ponytail. Then I did two braids from the middle section of the ponytail. Once I did that, I pulled the hair up into a bun by rolling it forward on itself, and pinning it into place. (Video tutorial coming soon!) Then I took the simple braids, wrapped them around the top of the bun, and pinned them. The elastics were at the top of the bun, which next time I would have changed, but this time, I just added the little flower bow that I had made.

A little Funky

This is my niece, Maddie. She's really fun, and loves playing with my kids, which is really nice. She and her sister came to visit for the holiday, so I got to do her hair. Fun!

Her only request was that her hair was out of her face- she's got side-swept bangs, so I did a dutch braid and then connected it to one of the little twists. One side of her hair got little twists, the other was a simple braid with the three strands.

Also, here's my quick Momma Do for the day-
