Quatre

Emma's hair has been long and down the last few weeks. She's on a hair strike. Not so fun for a mom with a blog about fixing hair. :)

Anyway, today I finally fought the good fight and she let me fix it. And fix it I did. 4 small inside-out french braids. (Or dutch braids- would these be considered corn rows? I've never been clear on that...)

Here's the pictures! Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday! We've got storytime and laundry on our schedule. What's everyone got planned for summer? Anything super exciting? I'm running a marathon in 2 weeks!!! Aaak! I'm pretty nervous for it. :)

You could easily make this an up-do look by making little buns out of the ponytails. Messy buns would also be super cute at the base of the neck.

Mermaid Tail...

I'm not a great braider, but I do think I do okay when it comes to dutch braids- they seem a little easier to me for some reason. Anyway, I was going to start out with something completely different, but my braiding got off track, so this is the do I ended up with.

Start with two simple dutch braids. I did the hair on a deep side part for this, because I wanted the hair to end up as a little side messy bun...

Take the larger of the two braids and pin to the smaller side. Here I made a change...I was going to have the braid as a bun, but there wasn't enough braid to cover much, so I decided to make it a messy bun instead. So I moved up the rubberband, did some curling, and had enough hair for a messy bun.

(Maia shut the door so Ruby couldn't come in- Ruby was chasing Maia with a hairbrush, and Maia didn't like it much. About 10 seconds after this picture, Maia got her fingers smashed in the door.) :(

Just take that hair and pin it around. I usually use rubberbands for messy buns, but I only used bobby pins this time just to make it fall out a little more. See now why I think it looks like a Mermaid tail? Emma thought I was a little weird, but oh well. I'm her mom- that's what I'm here for. :)

Have a good Monday!!

A little Punk...

This was a fun and funky do for the day. Two little dutch braids on the sides, pulled back into a sort of mohawk style. Emma loved it, and so did Michael. I guess the punk dos win over the cute curly ones. :)

Toddler Twist Piggies...

This was a fun one that we did for Maia this past weekend. I started with the braids at the bottom, then the twists, and combined each of them to the middle section. She was being extra wiggly that day, so I was rushing the twist on the right. Oh well- still looked cute! :)

Also, I'm almost positive that I have posted this one before, but this is a super fast do that looks really cute- a simple dutch braid that splits into two regular braids. Kind of tricky to get it to stay straight, but nice when you need your hair up for windy days. (We have crazy wind today in Vegas!)

Dutch Braid into a Side Bun...

Easy one today. The more I practice dutch braids (or inside out braids) the easier they are. It seems like they are easier to make look nice and smooth vs. regular french braids. Is that just me?

Easy braid for picture day

It's picture day today! I like Em's hair to be down for pictures, so I
did a nice simple Dutch braid headband with the rest curled. Maia
wanted a braid too, so she got a simple braid pulled back with a clip.
Easy day!

Dutch Braid Day...

I watched a few youtube videos yesterday of people doing cornrows, just so I could get the hang of doing dutch braids. I actually think they might be easier than french braids for me...so if you are in for a fun challenge (and your daughter can keep her head straight for a few minutes) I'd give it a try. :)

(This is just a dutch braid in front, going into a little side bun.)

(I was going to do the same hair on Emma, but I thought the two braids looked perfect with the little fall dress she's wearing today.)
