One for the Boys...

This one is for those of you with little boys. I found this fun product while I was at Sally's today. It's a super great hold cement with color mixed in. It came in red, pink, blue, and green. It makes a mess of your fingers, but it gives great results when you're looking for something a little "punk" like on Rock Star day! :)

Just thought I would share!

My Crazy Boy...

Michael's a little crazy, as anyone who knows him will agree. He also really likes money. Sometimes, that makes for quite a fun time. (Maybe I shouldn't enjoy these times so much, but I do.)

So, for a measley $1, Michael took on the dare of jumping into the pool. Not a heated pool, not a super warm day...See what I mean about the crazy part? :)

*Just as a side note, to help cancel out his craziness, Michael waited patiently for his dad to take him to the store where he bought a pack of gum and came home and shared it with his sisters. That's his sweet side. :)

Hair Cuts!

The other day I gave the kids some haircuts. I'm not a hairdresser, but I do like to cut my kids' hair. My mom always cut ours, and we always looked good. :) Plus, right now in this economy, doing your own haircuts really saves quite a bit. I know it's only about $10-15 at some places, but for our family, that would equal at least $50 every time we all needed cuts. And with the boys (plural meaning my husband and Michael) needing them every few weeks, I think the savings are worth it.

First up was Maia- simple trim to even out the back of her hair and some bangs! Her hair naturally falls forward on her head, so bangs make sense on her. Plus, it makes it look like she's got at least a bit of style when her hair's all crazy. :)

Next was Michael- I cut his every 4-6 weeks or so. His hair grows fast, and it just gets fuzzy around his ears, which really bothers me. I start out with a #1 guard and shave around the bottom of his hair, lifting a touch where I want the hair to start getting longer. Then I take my scissors (or a longer guard, depending on the length) and just trim vertically to fade in that section. And just before anyone comments, no, I didn't mess up on the back of Michael's hair...he got a bad cut there when he was 2 that required staples, and ever since, his hair has not grown back. :)

Emma was third- and she really wanted short hair- she always has, but I know that her hair would be all over the place if it was short- like a little rat's nest. But, her hair did need a good few-inch trim for sure, so it was short enough for her. :) I was thinking of bangs for her, but see how her hair naturally goes to the sides? That is why I won't ever cut bangs on Emma- they would just end up on the sides of her head anyway without a good blowdry.

And last was my little Ruby getting her first haircut at 6 months. She has rubbed off the back of her hair, but still had really long stringy pieces right behind her ears. So, I cut them off. Now her hair is nice and even and will hopefully grow back soon. :)

Just for fun, this is a little teaser of my post tomorrow- you can't tell but that's clipped into my hair! It's a custom painted hair clip! How cool is that? She happened to have my favorite art piece, and here it is- in glaze, on ceramic. The ONLY one in the world! So fun. :) I'll show you more tomorrow. I have to get some photos together first. (And, yes, the artist has asked me to sell them for her! So, if you're interested, let me know.)

Sunday Dos

So here's the group of pictures of our Sunday hairdos. I meant to have them up last night, but of course plans never work out the way they should. :)

We had our Primary presentation today, so I wanted the kids to look nice but not too overdone. I just did a simple ribbon in Emma's hair. You can see how I tie back the front sections, twisting them a bit at the base, and then banded it at the base of the neck. I add the ribbon by twisting it around the twist once, I think it holds a bit better, and then banding that as well. Pretty easy, but looks really cute.

Maia I think I've shown before, but I'll add it for fun. I've also done this do (the other terrible picture) where I end it at the base of the neck, so it looks a bit like a french braid.

Michael wanted to be on the hair blog- he had "nice" hair today for the program. No mohawks at church...at least not when everyone is going to be looking at him. :)

Mine was a little different for me- I usually don't do the on-the-side thing, but I actually got a lot of compliments on it, so if you're up for something different, that'd be an easy start. I just did a middle part, put the back section in a side pony, then did the twist backs and tied them as well. Then just a bit of pinning and there ya have it. (I really dislike photos of me, so you all are lucky that I posted this one. :) I couldn't get any good pictures of the hair without my face in it!)

Variation-

So this one is very similar to this, but I just switched up the top braid from the french braid. Really easy and cute, one that takes maybe 5 minutes, and that's when Emma's all squirmy. One trick to the bun is to do the braid really loose, then twist it around and bobby pin it. Once again, Emma didn't want a bow or anything (sad that she's starting to dislike bows- she actually will take them out and put them in her backpack before going to school...) :)

And making is first appearance on Redpunzel, is my little Michael. He's 5 now, and just had his first day of preschool today. He did his hair all by himself (because he's apparently too tough and grown up now to need his mother's help) Really, I'm actually very proud of him. :)

*Now that I see these downloads, it's proof that Maia has been playing with my camera with her grubby little fingers. I'll be sure to clean the lens before the next professional photo shoot. :)
