Inspired by: Pinterest!

Pinterest is absolutely addictive. If you haven't signed up yet, you should. They have an entire section just for Hair & Beauty, but make sure you've got some time if you check it out. (Here is my hairstyles board if you'd like to follow it!)

I found this style a while ago, and tried it last week- super simple braids, but tight at the base of the head. It was a great one to do when my hair was wet, and worked well on my somewhat wavy hair, but would also look great on curled or straight hair as well.

I only used 2 rubberbands and a few bobbypins and it held all day long. It even looked better as it dried throughout the morning. (Also, I did a two-into-one braid on one side, as my bangs still aren't quite long enough to reach without falling back...) So here's the video, although it is long, and a little boring, so feel free to skip through the steps. :)

Inspired by: Heidi Klum

So I'd like to apologize in advance about my pictures- my kids got my "real" camera, and it's having some issues, so I've been using my phone instead. Not great pictures are the result. Too bad my husband doesn't think this is a big enough issue to get a new iPhone with a better camera. :)

Anyway, I caught the end of a Project Runway the other night, and of course, Heidi Klum had great hair like always. So here's my take on it...her's was a little fancy for laundry day, so I did a more casual version. :)

 1. Start out with a small bun with the back half of your hair...Nothing fancy here, just a not-pulled-through-ponytail.
 2. Now, with the top section, shape the little bump by smoothing the hair, adding a small twist, and then pinning in place. (If you X the bobby pins, they will hold better.)

3. Take the side section, smooth and twist a couple times. I just pulled this back to the bun and used a rubberband to keep in place.
 4. Repeat on other side...(This is where a nicer phone would come in handy...check out that quality photography!)
There ya go! I super simple, easy style that looks great for any occasion. Best part is it takes all of 5 minutes, and you can do it with wet hair.

If it were a fancier date or something, I would curl the hair first, leave the hair in a ponytail during "construction" and then pin in into a messy bun after the front was all fixed into place.

Who needs expensive spas for mud baths?? Just have your brother dig a big hole in the backyard and fill with water. :)

Inspired by Juliet on Psych!

So I have recently started watching Psych on Netflix, and I LOVE the show. I made it through all the seasons pretty dang quick. Anyway, one of the main detectives named Juliet always has her hair in cute little knotted buns or ponytails. This was one that I thought was so simple, but really added a fun little punch to a regular ponytail.

And here's my take on Emma's hair...took about 5 minutes, and that was mostly because her bangs were so short and hard to tame! :) I also added a little loop detail, only because the rest of her pony was curled as well...

Momma Do Somewhat Inspired by Adele

I love Adele. If you haven't heard her, you're really missing out on some great music. I caught her "Rolling in the Deep" video on VH1 the other morning, and had to look it up again to see her hair. I loved it- so classic and simple. It looks almost like a beehive, but it somehow meets in the middle. I know she has much longer hair than me, so there's no way I could get that volume without looking a bit "Bride of Frankenstein," but I still wanted to try it out, so this is my take on it. More texture, and less "bubble," but kind of has the same feel...

So, I started with wet hair, and slicked it back nice and tight and added my headband. This is just one of those "athletic" ones with the little strip of rubber on the back. I then pulled up some of the length in the back into a small pony/bun. The rest of the hair was scrunched with gel and lots of hairspray, ratted a bit, and then pinned back in sections, just placed where it made the right shape. (I should have done a video, but I didn't know how it was going to turn out...)

And keep in mind, my hair is shoulder length now...this would be a great one for those of us with shorter hair if we want to make it look fuller for a date night or something fun.

See in this picture, there's a little pony/bun (A ponytail not pulled through all the way)

Inspired By: Fairly Legal...

I should do a bit of research and find out who the actress is that plays on this new show, but I'm getting a blog post up, so that should be good enough, right? :)

Anyway, I really like this new show- they have a few episodes up on Hulu if you haven't watched it before...this week, the main actress has a great little braid in the opening scene- it looks to me like two french braids going into one, so that's what I did. Nothing too fancy, but it ended up looking really cute. I for sure would try this one on my own head if I still had long hair, and if I had a couple extra super-long arms. :)

I started with one loose french braid on one side, braiding a bit down and banding it to keep it in place.
Do the second side- you can see that I started the braids more on the side of the head, and further back than I normally would. Plus, this picture looks like I kept it nice and tight, but part way through I would let it slack a bit.

Now, I started the center braid by putting one braid on either side, and then taking a section of both braids in the center. A little tricky, but I just grabbed all of the hair with one hand, and sectioned it like this. (And after I had it sectioned out was when I removed that first rubberband.)

Now just do a simple braid down the back, and band it. Simple and super cute. :)

In other sad sad news, it looks like Ruby is a biter...or at least she's starting to be. Any suggestions from you experienced moms? I've never had a baby that would bite...She got Maia's cheek HARD the other day. :(

Pebbles Flintstone...

When I told Emma about this reader request, both she and Michael didn't know who I was talking about. Finally, after describing the joys of the Flintstones, they both had a realization, and Michael said, "OH! The baby on the Fruity Pebbles commercial!" Sad that they haven't actually seen the show.

Anyway, Stacy and her 9-year old daughter wrote and asked if I would show them how I would do Pebble's hair. So here's my inspiration:

So cute, little Pebbles.

Anyway, I started off by making the bone for her hair. (I didn't just have one laying around.) I am working on some snake heads for Emma's costume, and used the same lightweight Model Magic. It was about $5 for a bigger package at Michael's. (would have been less if I had remembered one of the 3 coupons I had at home!)

Here's the bone. It is super light, so it shouldn't have a problem staying in her hair all night...

So, start with a super high ponytail- the higher the better.

Next, put the bone at the base of the ponytail, then take a small section of hair out of the pony. (You'll use this to wrap around the bone. I split that section in two, crossed them over the bone, and brought them back around the ponytail, where I crossed them again. Now depending on the length of hair you're working with, you'll want to repeat this. On Emma's I did it twice; just make sure you end up at the back of the ponytail.

So take whatever is left of that hair that you've been wrapping around the bone, and tie it tightly with a rubberband to hold it in place. Remember Pebbles has crazy poofy hair, so this little  bit out of the ponytail won't even matter.

Now just frizz up the rest of the hair with a good dose of hairspray (I didn't do this because it's still a school day,) and you're all set with a super cute little Pebbles Flintstone do!

Anyone else need a Halloween Idea??

Thank You, Paris...

I'm not big into the Hollywood scene, but I do catch the headlines like most people. But, for some reason I totally missed this one, and my friend Annie sent it to me as a hair idea. When I saw Paris Hilton's new mug shot, the first thing I thought was "That's some cute hair!"

Anyway, here is our take on it.

Start with two french braids. I had to start mine a little further back, and I should have messed the part a little bit...

Section a bit of hair at the top, and pull the two braids together in the back.

Hopefully the only mug shot Emma will ever have...

Super simple, and pretty stinkin' cute. I think instead of thanking Paris, I should be thanking her stylist. That's a cute do...

Baby GaGa

Just as a little preface to this hairdo, I really dislike Lady Gaga. Yes, her songs are catchy and upbeat, a little fun to turn up loud in the car, but overall, I just don't love her.

Anyway, her hairbow hair has always been a fun one. I'm sure most of it was a wig most likely, but it was a fun idea for sure.

Here's my take on the do- pigtails into bows!

The first side, so you can see what I was going for. You'll need some mini bobby pins, some good goo, and hairspray.  So start out with basic pigtails...
This is goo that I like. It's really a good one for structured stuff like this. It is gooey though- so don't let your kid grab it. It makes a mess. I also used some Short Sexy Hair Spray Wax. Pricey, but the smell alone takes the pain out of the purchase. :)

Separate the pigtail into three- the center piece (hanging down) a little smaller than the other two.

Make one loop, and pin. Don't worry about the loose hair- it will be twisted up with the rest at the end. Repeat the loop with the other side, making sure to leave that center piece out.

Now take your center piece. With Maia's length, I had to wrap it around the pigtail once, and then bring it down the center and pin it.

The best "final product" photo I could get. She was mad that I was finished with her hair. Either that or she REALLY doesn't like Lady Gaga. :)
