Sunday Dos

It's been a LONG summer. I'm a little happy to be back to a normal schedule tomorrow. (I'll say that now, but give me a few weeks and I'll be wishing for the long lost days of summer.) :)

Anyway, here are the dos that we did today for church. We didn't have much time, as usual, so they are pretty simple.

Ruby:
One front braid holds that front part of her hair back- if I just do piggies, that front section falls out pretty easily.

CHEESE! (She's learning how to say that when she takes pictures.) :)

Maia:
I started out trying to do two french braids with her hair, but it was still too short (and she's still too wiggly) This is a good alternative that looks like two french braids.

Emma:
With Emma starting 2nd grade, she asked if we could cut her hair short. I thought that was a little drastic for now, so I suggested bangs. At first she was a little worried, but she was brave and I cut them. It makes her look so different!

And her hair today was a simple bun. I'll have to do a little tutorial video on this one, because I didn't know what it would turn out like when I started, and it was super cute. It looks way more complicated than it is. I'm sure someone out there has figured out this bun before me...

Baby GaGa

Just as a little preface to this hairdo, I really dislike Lady Gaga. Yes, her songs are catchy and upbeat, a little fun to turn up loud in the car, but overall, I just don't love her.

Anyway, her hairbow hair has always been a fun one. I'm sure most of it was a wig most likely, but it was a fun idea for sure.

Here's my take on the do- pigtails into bows!

The first side, so you can see what I was going for. You'll need some mini bobby pins, some good goo, and hairspray.  So start out with basic pigtails...
This is goo that I like. It's really a good one for structured stuff like this. It is gooey though- so don't let your kid grab it. It makes a mess. I also used some Short Sexy Hair Spray Wax. Pricey, but the smell alone takes the pain out of the purchase. :)

Separate the pigtail into three- the center piece (hanging down) a little smaller than the other two.

Make one loop, and pin. Don't worry about the loose hair- it will be twisted up with the rest at the end. Repeat the loop with the other side, making sure to leave that center piece out.

Now take your center piece. With Maia's length, I had to wrap it around the pigtail once, and then bring it down the center and pin it.

The best "final product" photo I could get. She was mad that I was finished with her hair. Either that or she REALLY doesn't like Lady Gaga. :)

Baby Fountains...

This was Ruby's hair yesterday. I found my tiny (1/2" I think) curling iron, and curled her little pigs into cute little fountains.

This is one that you can do as soon as your little girl has enough hair to go into a rubber band, no matter how long it is. I know with Emma, who didn't have as long of hair as Ruby, I could still do the pony, but I would have to just shape the curls with my fingers instead of a curling iron.

Baby Braids...

Cute little antenna braids today for Ruby. :)

Toddler Piggies

This one I did a while ago with Maia, and I wasn't going to post it because the pictures weren't great, but I thought I would anyway because it is very cute, and very easy. You do use a topsy tail for it (or if you are one of the talented who can do pull-throughs without one, you don't need one.)

You can see that it is one pull through on the top section of the hair (you can do more than this, I just thought I'd keep it simple) and then the pigtails are flipped upside down (so pull from the bottom going up with the topsy tail) Once that is done, give each piggie a good curl and you're done. I loved how this looks a little cute and spunky- and it stayed in all day.

Speaking of piggies, Ruby finally has enough hair (on the sides anyway) to do cute little piggies! Of course she made it really difficult to get a good photo. :)

Check out that bald spot! :)

Success!

So most days Maia and Ruby get left out of the hair doing only because they don't have to go anywhere. (Which is sad because Maia loves hers done) But this morning, I had all three girls set with hair and ribbons before dropping of Em and Mike at school. Now the two little girls and I are at home blogging with nice hair. (Not me- all the morning time was spent on the kids- I have left over hair from yesterday.) :)

Anyway, just some photos of what I did. Maia's was pretty simple, and it really does help keep it out of her face all day- doing the smaller sections of hair like this is great for little girls with not so much hair. You can also start at the back of the head and work your way up and end with cute little pigs on the top of the head. (My friend from church does this one on her little girls and they are super cute- you know who you are if you read my blog!) :)

I bought the cute candy corn ribbons for Maia and Ruby from EGS Designs (I hope she doesn't mind a shout out) They are the itty bitty size and the medium size.

I learned the cute little twists on the top of Emma's do from Cute2tryHairdos, and I have done a few variations of the back (plain pigtails, messy buns, etc.) This one was cute and simple, just did one "tie" and then twisted them around eachother, secured with bobbypins and added the bow.

Ruby-Loo

So this is my little girl Ruby. She's almost 3 months old, and lucky for her- she has hair for me to fix! I got this super cute korker from Chic-Clips, along with some other super great bows (I'm not usually a bow-buyer, but her's were well worth it- tell her Rachel sent you!) Anyway, not such an exciting post, just thought the picture was cute enough. :)

Finally

So, I'm starting a blog for my little girls' hairdo's. I've put it off because there are some other great blogs out there with other great ideas (many that I have used) but I have had so many comments from people that I should start one. So here I am caving in to peer pressure. :)

My blog is called Redpunzel because my little girls all have red hair. (Well, we're counting on the third to turn red like her older sister did, so if that fails, my blog title won't make a lot of sense anymore.) Emma is my most tortured with her hair, only because she has to have it fixed for school every day. Maia is finally getting long enough hair to do some fun stuff with, and Ruby, well, she had her first little bug antennas on Sunday for church. (I'm so proud! She's only 2 months old and she already has given me enough hair to fix!) :)

I'm just doing my first post with a few photos of past hair that I have done. This blog is going to be pretty casual- most likely a lot of quick photos without a lot of explanation. If you do need me to tell you how to do a do, then let me know. I'm happy to help.
