Topsy-Tail Piggies and CinderBooty...

I know this cannot be an original, but I had a dream about this hairdo last night. (Crazy that I think about hair that much, huh?) Pretty simple instruction wise - you just need a few rubberbands and a topsy-tail.

1. Separate the hair into two sections. We did a zig-zag just for a more fun look.
2. Starting with one side, band a small section and do a pull-through with the point of the topsy-tail pointing to the back.
3. Pull this section and the next piece of hair into a band, and repeat the pull-through.
4. Repeat as many times as you can.
5. On the last pull-through, I did it opposite- with the point of the topsy-tail pointing forward...this just gives the ponytail a little more bounce and volume.
6. You could just leave this down, but we curled it. You could also add some messy buns which would turn out really cute.

Just for fun, this is the style that Maia calls CinderBooty. Not sure where she came up with that name (my guess is a mix of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty) but she requests it often. Just simple ringlets with her bangs pinned back. :)

Fun with Pigtails...

Next time you're in a rush, but want something a little different, try switching up the standard 2-pigtail look. This was a get-everyone-ready-in-20-minutes-day, but we were going to church so the girls couldn't go with scraggly hair...So, Maia got 3 lower pigtails, and Ruby got 4. Easy day, but I got a lot of compliments on how fun the extra pigs were. :)

(these looked nicer, but Maia decided to rub her head on the couch before we left...silly girl.) :)

Baby GaGa

Just as a little preface to this hairdo, I really dislike Lady Gaga. Yes, her songs are catchy and upbeat, a little fun to turn up loud in the car, but overall, I just don't love her.

Anyway, her hairbow hair has always been a fun one. I'm sure most of it was a wig most likely, but it was a fun idea for sure.

Here's my take on the do- pigtails into bows!

The first side, so you can see what I was going for. You'll need some mini bobby pins, some good goo, and hairspray.  So start out with basic pigtails...
This is goo that I like. It's really a good one for structured stuff like this. It is gooey though- so don't let your kid grab it. It makes a mess. I also used some Short Sexy Hair Spray Wax. Pricey, but the smell alone takes the pain out of the purchase. :)

Separate the pigtail into three- the center piece (hanging down) a little smaller than the other two.

Make one loop, and pin. Don't worry about the loose hair- it will be twisted up with the rest at the end. Repeat the loop with the other side, making sure to leave that center piece out.

Now take your center piece. With Maia's length, I had to wrap it around the pigtail once, and then bring it down the center and pin it.

The best "final product" photo I could get. She was mad that I was finished with her hair. Either that or she REALLY doesn't like Lady Gaga. :)

Triple Threat...

A cute quick idea- took all of 5 minutes!

A little Knotty...

Hehe. That title made me laugh a little bit because Emma is a little naughty this morning. :)

I started by sectioning off the hair in 4 sections. I purposely did it a little angled, so do it however you want.  Once they were all temporarily tied back, I pulled out that small bit of hair in the front, got it nice and wet, and tied a square knot. (at least I think it was a square knot...) :)

Pull everything together in nice little pigtails, curl away, and either leave down (I was tempted to do this- it looked really cute) or just pull up in messy buns like I did. Cute and easy. Not super fast though- it took about 15 minutes.

Three of a Kind...

There are times when I really appreciate the concept of the assembly line. Doing the same thing over and over comes in handy when it's time for 3 little girls' hair. :)

Toddler Twist Piggies...

This was a fun one that we did for Maia this past weekend. I started with the braids at the bottom, then the twists, and combined each of them to the middle section. She was being extra wiggly that day, so I was rushing the twist on the right. Oh well- still looked cute! :)

Also, I'm almost positive that I have posted this one before, but this is a super fast do that looks really cute- a simple dutch braid that splits into two regular braids. Kind of tricky to get it to stay straight, but nice when you need your hair up for windy days. (We have crazy wind today in Vegas!)

Bounce-House Hair...

Abby's birthday party was super fun yesterday. We went to a place called MyGym, which is like a little play center filled with all sorts of gymnastics equipment. After that fun, we went back to my sisters house for more of a family-only party with a bounce house in their backyard. Knowing this in advance, I knew that if I did something with Emma's hair that was the tiniest bit loose, it would be all over the place by the end of the party.

SO, this is what I came up with. Simple rubber bands in the front half, and then I used this technique for that cute back section. Next time I'll have to spread out the pigtails a little further. No one really noticed this little bit in the back, and it was so cute!

*Just so you know, my lovely camera is already back at the factory getting fixed. So you guys get to deal with the pictures from my phone. :)

Toddler Heart...

Doing shorter hair is pretty hard sometimes, but this one was really simple, and turned out really cute. It's only 10:30, and we've already gotten 3 comments on it. :)

I started out by adapting this do by only doing one heart, then instead of leaving Maia's hair down (which usually ends up super crazy by the time we're out of the car.) I pulled up both sides into simple pigtails.

Sorry for the fuzzy photos- still working on getting used to the camera.

Toddler Piggies

This one I did a while ago with Maia, and I wasn't going to post it because the pictures weren't great, but I thought I would anyway because it is very cute, and very easy. You do use a topsy tail for it (or if you are one of the talented who can do pull-throughs without one, you don't need one.)

You can see that it is one pull through on the top section of the hair (you can do more than this, I just thought I'd keep it simple) and then the pigtails are flipped upside down (so pull from the bottom going up with the topsy tail) Once that is done, give each piggie a good curl and you're done. I loved how this looks a little cute and spunky- and it stayed in all day.

Speaking of piggies, Ruby finally has enough hair (on the sides anyway) to do cute little piggies! Of course she made it really difficult to get a good photo. :)

Check out that bald spot! :)

A Fun Funky Do...

I wasn't quite sure how this one would turn out from the idea I had in my head, but I like it. Super simple, and quick. I should have used a bit more hairspray at the beginning with the braid- it looks a bit too fuzzy for my liking. :)

Two ponytails pulled through upside down, and then curled with the flat iron. I took just the last bit of hair, twisted it and pinned it up near the ponytail to make the little poof. I left the ends kind of lose and free, but you could secure them really well if you would rather.

A couple pull-through ideas...

I did the girls hair pretty quick today, but on both I used pull-throughs. I haven't used them much on Maia's hair yet, but they turned out really cute.

Emma's had the three on top, going into cute little messy buns...

For Maia, I did a ziz-zag part, put each side into three sections, then did the pullthroughs on the front and back section, and put them all together to make a little pigtail in the middle section.

**I had a couple of emails asking where I bought my topsy-tail from. I got mine off of ebay- it was actually shipped from China or Taiwan in just a plain envelope, and it was under $5 shipped. I've also seen them at Claire's. Here they're on the very bottom rack on the wall of the hair section.

Success!

So most days Maia and Ruby get left out of the hair doing only because they don't have to go anywhere. (Which is sad because Maia loves hers done) But this morning, I had all three girls set with hair and ribbons before dropping of Em and Mike at school. Now the two little girls and I are at home blogging with nice hair. (Not me- all the morning time was spent on the kids- I have left over hair from yesterday.) :)

Anyway, just some photos of what I did. Maia's was pretty simple, and it really does help keep it out of her face all day- doing the smaller sections of hair like this is great for little girls with not so much hair. You can also start at the back of the head and work your way up and end with cute little pigs on the top of the head. (My friend from church does this one on her little girls and they are super cute- you know who you are if you read my blog!) :)

I bought the cute candy corn ribbons for Maia and Ruby from EGS Designs (I hope she doesn't mind a shout out) They are the itty bitty size and the medium size.

I learned the cute little twists on the top of Emma's do from Cute2tryHairdos, and I have done a few variations of the back (plain pigtails, messy buns, etc.) This one was cute and simple, just did one "tie" and then twisted them around eachother, secured with bobbypins and added the bow.
