Felt Playhouse...

With summer break coming up, I've been trying to find some ideas that I can do/make that will give the kids something to do so I might avoid a few of the "I'm BORED!" comments.

I saw this idea a while ago, but just got around to making one. It's a little slip cover for a card table- so it can be folded up and put away. It's made out of felt, so it is pretty durable, and the best part is that it didn't require much to put it together. I didn't measure very well, I didn't hem anything, and overall, it went together pretty quickly (total of about 4 hours and maybe $30) I still want to make some other additions like flowers for the window baskets and maybe some little shape matching games for the back, but I'm happy with it.

The kids really like it. I really like that they really like it. It was a good afternoon. :)

So, the basic idea:

-1 card table (or any table at all! You can even make it fit your kitchen or dining room table)
-Felt from bolts in various colors. I bought 3 yards of the blue, (and still have a ton left over.) 2 of the brown (ton left over) and 3/4 of the red (ton left over) <---can you tell I'm terrible at figuring amounts of fabric?
-Felt Sheets in various colors (for the envelopes, windows, doorknob, and window boxes, and eventually flowers)

I did VERY inexact cuts. I basically held up the fabric to the side of the table, cut that one piece, and used it to cut the other 4. The top I just laid right on the table and cut around it. (I know that's not super helpful for those of you who like plans- Sorry!)

Start with one section of the house, and do the embellishments. I really just cut out the different things, tried them out, cut them again, etc. Once you have everything set, sew it all together (I sewed all of the sides to the roof, and then the side seems down so the roof would stick out a bit in the corners.)

  5. Wow! I've been thinking about this ever since I saw your post a couple of days ago. I'm going to try to make one for my little guy who has a birthday coming up in a couple of months. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

If you do end up adding more activities to the back or whatever, do you think you could post those pictures? I like the idea of having more activities on the house itself, but I'm not very creative and would love any other ideas you have.
