Special Occasion Hair...

In our religion, kids can choose to be baptized when they are 8 years old. It's a big deal for most kids! Emma had her birthday at the end of June, so her baptism is coming right up. We have a lot of out-of-town family that will not be able to come, so we decided to send out an email with some photos of her in her dress for those that can't make it, and the church info for those that will be able to make it.

This was a really fun and simple style- just a ponytail that was tightly curled and pinned into place. You can see from the pictures that I pushed almost all of the hair to the front of her head since it was only for photos.

Another super fun thing was the headband. I made it myself after seeing some around blogland that I loved, and was really proud of how it turned out. I was a little worried that it would be too much with the netting and the feathers, but it worked perfectly. I'm planning a tutorial on those soon, so make sure to check back for updates!

My Favorite Fancy (but Fast) Hair...

So, anytime I do this hair on one of the little girls, I always get comments on how long it must have taken, and how cute it is...little do they know, it takes maybe 5-10 minutes and is great for those days when you need something cute, but fast.

Inspired by Juliet on Psych!

So I have recently started watching Psych on Netflix, and I LOVE the show. I made it through all the seasons pretty dang quick. Anyway, one of the main detectives named Juliet always has her hair in cute little knotted buns or ponytails. This was one that I thought was so simple, but really added a fun little punch to a regular ponytail.

And here's my take on Emma's hair...took about 5 minutes, and that was mostly because her bangs were so short and hard to tame! :) I also added a little loop detail, only because the rest of her pony was curled as well...

Deja Vu?

I was attempting a different hairstyle (I'll retry it later so I don't want to give it away,) but failed at the one I was trying to duplicate, but came up with this one instead.  I'm a little worried that I may have seen one like this before, but I have gone through a couple blogs, and can't find anything, so hopefully I'm not stealing anyones idea! (If you know of one like this, will you leave a comment with the link?)

The video shows the steps, but I did go back at the end and cut out the first rubberband so the hair was a little more loose, and the hair was actually holding the ponytail.

Toddler Ponytail

Maia's hair is getting a little longer, but still not quite long enough to put into one single ponytail. (Well, it can be done, but it doesn't look so pretty 5 minutes later.) :) This is what I do for Maia to make sure it stays in all day long.

1. Rubberband three sections in the front.

2. Section out the bottom portion of the hair, pulling up the rest into the ponytail. (include the three sections at this point)

3. Rubberband the bottom section, and then add it to the ponytail.

This one will stay in for most of the day, including naps and such. I usually just have to brush out and readjust the ponytail if I'm really worried about what it looks like. Nice and easy!

1. Up-do please (I'll be dancing and singing and I'll get sweaty :( )

2. If it's possible I need it to incorporate the 50's, 70's and Egyptian times. Is that even possible?

3. My hair is thin and about shoulder length.

4. My mom will be doing my hair so, it has to be basic. She's not as talented like you, although she can french braid and dutch braid.

I think that's about it! Thank you soooooo much I LOVE your blog!! I am now hair obesseed.

So, Leslie Rae, this is what I came up with. Two dutch braids, going opposite directions, all pulled into a ponytail. I did the ponytail first, after sectioning out the hair that I wanted for the braids. Then two braids and you're good to go. I think the dutch braids look really cute with this style, but the french braid would work just as well.

The ponytail should help with the up-do requirement, and I thought that it would help a lot with the 50's style if you added a quick little scarf or something. The braids helped with the 70's requirement, and they won't fall out as easily as some of the pull back ideas. Also, with the 70's, I thought you should quickly add a big flower to your hair. As far as Egyptian times, I thought a super quick gold ribbon around your forehead, tying it back behind the ponytail, would be perfect. (You could even premake the right size and add some velcro so it really would be a super quick addition.)

**I don't know how well-known pony-o's-with-a-button-making is. Does everyone else know how to make them and I just figured it out last night? (And I also don't know if this is the REAL way to do it, but it worked well.) If you'd like to know, leave a comment and I may do a tutorial. Super easy. :)

*Emma sometimes will fix little stuffed animals' "hair" this morning it was her little bunny with his ears in a bun. :)

Toddler Ponytail with Braids...

Maia has been somewhat neglected lately when it comes to her hair. She really loves having it fixed, but I never have time in the mornings getting the other two ready for school. Today I woke up extra early though, so we had plenty of time. If anyone is wondering how to get your toddler to stay still while you fix their hair, my tricks so far have been washing hands or playing with water in the sink, lip gloss, makeup, brushing teeth, or as a last resort, my cell phone.

Anyway, here's the do. Start with two braids, then pull up the back into a ponytail and include the braids. Maia's hair is still a little short in the back, so I did the bottom rubber band to help it all stay in. Super cute, although it makes her look a little more grown up than I'd like to admit. :)

*Maia is obsessed with this pineapple hair clip that we got from Gymboree on clearance. She loves it! It reminds me of Spongebob's house. :)

Puff Braid Ponytail...

So I've been a little busy this past week- I was working on finally getting my new website completed and launched. This has been in the works for about a year now, so I was so happy to finally get it finished. Check it out and let me know what you think! Kids Room Creations

Anyway, back to the hairdos! This one was fun to do today- simple puff braids into a back ponytail.

Recycle!

This was Emma's hairdo for today, which is recycled from this do. We were running pretty late thanks to a sleepy mom. (I usually don't sleep in much after the kids are up, but Ruby decided that 4:30 was a good time to have a 45 minute play session, so I was really tired.) Anyway, I just pulled Emma's hair up into a pony tail, and took the end of the braided section out so it would add to the fun of the hair. Pretty easy.

Easy ponytail

I ended up moving both flowers to one side so you could see the hair
wound around the elastic, and so they didn't look like little eyes on
her head. :)

Day After Do...

It seems like Monday's are always a bit busier getting out of the house than usual, and I almost always end up doing something using what she had on Sunday. Here's a cute day after do using the twist braids from our church do yesterday- I actually learned how to do this "Hawser Braid" at Babes in Hairland, super cute and was pretty easy.

Finally

So, I'm starting a blog for my little girls' hairdo's. I've put it off because there are some other great blogs out there with other great ideas (many that I have used) but I have had so many comments from people that I should start one. So here I am caving in to peer pressure. :)

My blog is called Redpunzel because my little girls all have red hair. (Well, we're counting on the third to turn red like her older sister did, so if that fails, my blog title won't make a lot of sense anymore.) Emma is my most tortured with her hair, only because she has to have it fixed for school every day. Maia is finally getting long enough hair to do some fun stuff with, and Ruby, well, she had her first little bug antennas on Sunday for church. (I'm so proud! She's only 2 months old and she already has given me enough hair to fix!) :)

I'm just doing my first post with a few photos of past hair that I have done. This blog is going to be pretty casual- most likely a lot of quick photos without a lot of explanation. If you do need me to tell you how to do a do, then let me know. I'm happy to help.
